Shannon Blatt

Shannon Blatt is a trans woman and trans activist/educator/advocate who has participated in trans community initiatives at the local, provincial and national levels since coming out in Ottawa, Ontario in 2002. Amongst her efforts, Shannon worked as an organizer of Ottawa’s first Trans March for Equality in 2006, as the Chair of the Trans Advisory Committee to Ottawa’s LGBTTQ* Community Centre in 2007 and as the Ottawa Liaison for Ontario’s Trans Human Rights Campaign in 2007-2008. To pay the rent, Shannon works as a labour lawyer for a Canadian trade union and she has engaged in activist and educational work on trans issues in her workplace, amongst the membership of the union and within the broader labour movement.

Dr. Melody Preece

Dr. Preece is a Clinical Psychologist, registered in British Columbia, and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Practice, Faculty of Medicine, at UBC. She has post-doctoral training in mood disorders, neuropsychology, chronic pain and forensics. She conducts a variety of assessments, including psychological/vocational assessments, parenting capacity assessments and medical-legal assessments. She specializes in working with the transgender population, providing assessments and treatment recommendations. She is the Chair of the Canadian Professional Association for Transgender Health Research Committee, a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, the American Psychological Association, the Canadian Psychological Association, and the British Columbia Psychological Association. She provides training in Hormone Readiness Assessment to physicians and mental health professionals through the Transgender Health Program, Vancouver Coastal Health.

Corey Keith, BSW

Corey Keith is a Genderfluid/ Pansexual who has graduated from the Bachelors of Social Work program from Nicole Valley Institute of Technology which is an Aboriginal College. As well as a graduate of the Life Skills Coaching program and is working to finish her Professional Counseling diploma at Rhodes Wellness College. Corey has for the last 12 years been an advocate for all human rights, including queer rights for the last 10. From that experience Corey has founded the first Queer agency in Central Alberta (the Central Alberta Rainbow Youth and since then has continued her work for queer advocacy, education, peer counseling and capacity building from both Central Alberta, Merritt and in the Vancouver Area. At present, Corey is employed with Qmunity as a co - facilitator for the Trans Social Support group and volunteers as a facilitator for the Trans Allies and Partner Support Group.

Kimothy Shaughnessy

Kimothy Shaughnessy is a registered social worker and queer spoken word activist who grew up in a small town and lived to tell the tale. Always eager to put himself in the line of fire, Kimothy has appeared on stage, television, radio and in many classrooms across Canada and the US for over seven years. He gets his biggest satisfaction out of coordinating and facilitating queer and trans workshops, discussions and community development projects such as Happy Tranny Day, Switch and various queer narrative writing/story sharing workshops. Kimothy leads a quiet East Van life of nesting and conversation with his queer tranny love of five years and believes in living well as a subversive act.
