Exploding the Gatekeeper Myth:
Presenter: Dr. Melody Preece Ph.D Dr. Preece will discuss the role of mental health professionals in the transition process. She will explain the perspective she takes when working with transgender individuals, and describe the methods she employs to develop recommendations for medical treatment. Dr. Preece will also review the current Standards of Care, the document that guides all health care professionals when working with clients seeking medical transition. The pros and cons of alternative methods of providing medical care to individuals with gender dysphoria will also be discussed. Participants are invited to share their perspective on the Standards of Care and all suggestions will be forwarded to the WPATH Committee that is currently working on the 7th revision of this document. |

Presenter: Corey Keith, BSW This one hour presentation is designed to give you the very basics of what you need to know about the Trans community and what it takes to be an ally. How do we support a Trans person? What do Trans people need to feel they are safe to be themselves and to thrive? Whether you are a member of the larger community, a friend, family member, partner, professional, member of the queer or Trans communities, we need to learn ways we can support each other. This experiential presentation will come from a holistic a strengths based approach to give you both the knowledge and skills to be the best ally we can be. |

Presenter: Kimothy Shaughnessy Is/was your father the greatest man who ever lived, someone you struggle to forgive, or someone you’ve never met? Did he teach you what kind of man, father, or masculine person you want to be in the world, or what kind of man you definitely don’t want to be? Does he support your identity or refuse to get on board? How do you feel about conceptualizing yourself as a father, a potential father? How about your decision not to become a father or regrets at not being able to become a biological father? What is becoming a father all about? This facilitated storytelling session invites you into the room to share your experiences, thoughts and reflections on the concept of fathers, fatherhood, and the role they play in our lives as men, transmen, or otherwise transmasculine identified people. |
